I personally tested out this mattress topper by laying on it in different positions and trying it on different mattresses.

I felt this topper had a pretty plush feel. It allows you to sink in for some contouring and overall has a fairly classic memory foam feel. I definitely felt some pressure relief on key pressure points, like my shoulders and hips.

To see how this topper would work with different mattresses, I tested it on beds of three different firmnesses. Here’s what I thought.

Soft: Adding this topper to a soft mattress made it feel super soft and doughy. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this, as it reduces basically any responsiveness in the bed and makes it difficult to move around on. However, if you struggle with severe shoulder or hip pain, this could work for you to relieve pressure.

Medium-firm: On the medium-firm mattress , I felt the Brooklyn Bedding Gel Swirl topper added some plushness and cushioning to the bed, making it feel closer to a true medium feel.

Firm: When I tested this topper on the firm mattress , I felt the added cushioning again, but still felt fairly firm support from below. I thought it lowered the firmness to a medium-firm .

All in all, this topper is simple, yet effective. The gel memory foam mattress topper allows for nice contouring to relieve pressure points, like shoulders and hips, for side sleepers, as well as providing that comfy molded feel and filling in of the lumbar region for back sleepers. 

While this solid block of memory foam doesn’t allow for much airflow or air circulation , the gel infusions help to keep it sleeping temperature neutral. This makes it a solid choice for hot sleepers who want memory foam.

I also like that this topper comes in two different thicknesses, so you have some options. For most side sleepers , I’d recommend going for the 3-inch to ensure you get lots of pressure relief. Back sleepers can go either way, depending on preference and how firm their existing mattress is. 

Heavy sleepers, who weigh 250 pounds or more, should choose the 3-inch if they do buy this topper, to ensure they get enough room to sink in. However, I would also recommend taking a look at even thicker toppers.

However, my biggest complaint with this topper is that it does not have straps or another way of attaching securely to the mattress. This could cause it to easily shift on the surface of the bed. This topper does come at a more budget-friendly price point though, so it makes sense it lacks some of the features pricier toppers might have.
